We believe every family deserves a safe, healthy, and sustainable home, no matter their ZIP code. That’s why we transformed our 100-year-old South Los Angeles Craftsman into a fully electrified, working model of what the clean energy future can look like right here in our own neighborhood. This house is more than a demonstration site; it’s a community space where residents can learn, connect, explore new technologies, and imagine what’s possible for their own homes and families.

Who we are
For decades, frontline communities like South Los Angeles have experienced the impacts of environmental injustice and industrial pollution first and worst. We believe our neighborhoods should be the first in line for the health and economic benefits of the clean energy transition. Serving as a trusted resilience hub, Greenhouse South LA equips frontline communities to withstand climate impacts while driving local solutions from the ground up. Our grassroots, community-rooted nonprofit was co-founded by Wendy Salvador, a South Central native dedicated to environmental justice, and Ken Galbraith, an electrical contractor specializing in home electrification.

Environmental & Youth Advocacy
The Greenhouse is a launching pad for the next generation of environmental leaders. Our youth advocates lead the charge—speaking directly with local policymakers, hosting educational site visits with elected officials, and organizing campaigns focused on advocating for environmental justice.
Workforce Development
The green economy shouldn't just happen in our community; it should be powered by our community. In our repurposed garage workshop, South L.A. youth gain practical, hands-on experience using tools and understanding the mechanics of electrical systems. We are building a direct pipeline to high-paying, sustainable green careers.

Gas appliances release harmful pollutants like nitrogen dioxide and carbon monoxide into our living spaces, contributing to chronic health conditions like asthma. At the Greenhouse, every single appliance—from the kitchen stove and water heater to the washer, dryer, and heat pump cooling units—runs entirely on clean electricity.
We offer free community tours for residents, local organizations, and policymakers to experience an all-electric home in action, ask questions, and see the technology up close.
